Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) has notified 90 vacancies for the post of Veterinary Assistant Surgeon. The application process has commenced from 1st August, 2024 and the application process will end on 21st August, 2024. Candidates can apply for the vacancies on the official website jkpsc.nic.in.
Candidates will be able to make changes to their application form from 22 to 24 August. The recruitment drive is being conducted to fill up a total of 90 vacancies.
JKPSC KAS Eligibility Criteria
Age Limit: The applicants from unreserved category should not be more than the age of 40 years as on January 1, 2024. Upper age relaxation applicable to candidates from reserved category.
Educational Qualification: B.V.Sc and A.H.Degree from a recognised university

Candidates have to pay a fee of Rs 1200 for the general category and Rs 700 for reserved categories.

Steps to apply for the vacancies

- Go to ‘Recruitment’ – ‘Job/ Online Application’
- Click on the application link against the VAS posts
- Register and click on the apply link
- Fill application form, upload documents, and pay the fee
- Submit the form and take a printout.
Documents to be mandatorily uploaded
While filling the online application form, the applicant(s) are required to mandatorily upload the following documents alongwith the online application form:-
- Date of Birth Certificate (Secondary School/Matric certificate)- 1 leaf
- Domicile certificate – 1 leaf
- Category certificate (If claiming benefit under that category)- 1 leaf
- B.VSc & A.H Degree certificate along with the consolidated Marks Cards- upto 5 leaves.

Animal Husbandry:
General: Importance of livestock in Agriculture, Relationship between Plant and Animal Husbandry, Mixed farming Livestock and milk production statistics.
Genetics: Elements of genetics and breeding as applied to improvement of animals. Breeds of indigenous and exotic cattle, buffaloes, goats, sheeps, pigs and poultry and their potential of milk, eggs, meat and wool production.
Nutrition: Classification of feeds, feeding standards, computation of ration and mixing of rations, conservation of feeds and fodder.
Management: Management of livestock (Pregnant and milking cows, young stock), livestock records, principles of clean milk production, economies of livestock farming Livestock housing.
Veterinary Science
- Major contagious diseases affecting cattle and drought animals, poultry and pigs.
- Artificial insemination, fertility and sterility.
- Veterinary hygiene with reference to water, air and habitation.
- Principles of immunization and vaccination.
Description, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of the following diseases of:-
(a) Cattle: Anthrax, Foot and mouth disease, Haemorrhagic, Septicaemia, Rinderpest, Black quarter, Tympanitis, Diarrhoea, Pneumonia, Tuberculosis, Johnes disease and diseases of new born calf.
(c) Poultry: Coccidiosis, Ranikhet, Fowl Pox, Avian Leukosis, Marks Disease. (c) Swine: Swine fever.
(d) Poisons used for killing animals.
(e) Drugs used for doping of race horses and the techniques of detection.
(f) Drugs used to tranquilize wild animals as well as animals in captivity.
(g) Quarantine measures prevalent in India and abroad and improvements therein
Dairy Science
- Study of milk composition, physical properties and food value.
- Quality control of milk, common tests, legal standards.
- Utensils and equipment and their cleaning.
- Organization of Dairy, processing of milk and distribution.
- Manufacture of Indian indigenous milk products.
- Simple dairy operations.
- Micro-organisms found in milk and dairy products.
- Diseases transmitted through milk to man.

Questions on General Knowledge, shall comprise National Affairs, J&K Affairs and questions relevant to the subject.
